If you keep birds — or find dead ones

  • Register your birds with APHA — since October 2024 every poultry keeper in Great Britain must, even with one bird — so you get zone alerts.
  • Report suspicion of bird flu in kept birds to the Defra Rural Services Helpline, 03000 200 301 (Wales 0300 303 8268; Scotland: your local Field Services Office).
  • Found dead wild birds (swans, geese, ducks, gulls or birds of prey)? Do not touch them; report on GOV.UK or call 03459 33 55 77.
  • The risk to the public is very low; cooked poultry and eggs are safe to eat.
