What this page shows, and what it misses

Protests, strikes, hunger strikes, blockades and demonstrations that news reports described in the last 24 hours, as machine-coded by the GDELT Project from worldwide online news. Events are grouped by country, region and day; a place is marked "reported by N news sites" only when articles from N different sites describe it, and "single source" otherwise. We show the site that published each article and a title read from its link — never the article text.

It misses a lot: protests no monitored outlet wrote about, and the size of a protest (GDELT does not count people). It can also be wrong: software places events by the town names in an article, so a story written in one city about a protest elsewhere can land in the wrong place, and an article looking back at an older protest can be coded as new. It is not an official count. This window was built from 2 of the last 96 fifteen-minute GDELT updates.

Near a protest

  • Keep your distance from crowds, police lines and blocked roads, and know two ways out of the area.
  • If tear gas is used, move upwind and away; do not rub your eyes.
  • Travelling? Check your government's travel advice and local transport updates — strikes often stop trains and flights.
  • Large crowds: how to read a dangerous crowd.

QuestionsAbout this list

Where are protests happening today?
In the 24 hours to 21:00 UTC on 2 November 2026, news reports machine-coded by the GDELT Project placed protests, strikes or demonstrations in 11 places across 10 countries; 0 of them were reported by two or more different news sites. Most places: Israel (2), Qatar (1), Germany (1).
How is this list made?
Every 15 minutes the GDELT Project publishes the events its software found in the latest news worldwide. We keep the protests, strikes, blockades and demonstrations, group them by country, region and day, and mark a place as reported by several sources only when articles from two or more different news sites describe it. Nothing on this page is written by hand, so places can be wrong.
What is the difference between a protest and a riot here?
A protest, strike or demonstration is coded from news wording and can be entirely peaceful. "Violent protest or riot" is GDELT's own category for protests that news reports describe as violent. Riots and armed clashes that Global Incident Tracker recorded as incidents are listed separately and link to their own pages.
Does this show every protest in the world?
No. It shows protests that news outlets GDELT monitors wrote about in the last 24 hours. Small, local or unreported protests are missed, and big ones can be split across several places. It is not an official count.
