What a declaration means for you
- Major disaster (DR) unlocks the widest federal help; emergency (EM) covers protective measures, usually before or during an event; fire management (FM) pays firefighting costs.
- "Households can apply" means Individual Assistance: if your county is listed, apply at DisasterAssistance.gov, in the FEMA App or on 1-800-621-3362.
- Counties are often added days or weeks after the first declaration — check back if yours is missing.
- Beware of scams: FEMA staff never charge a fee to apply or to inspect your home.
